When we are in a remote part of a forest, especially as night draws in, we are easily seized by fears and sometimes these fears are provoked by half-forgotten childhood fairy tales of wolves and witches, stories which form part of our common European heritage.
These sources of fear are embedded in the image-making method. In many pictures the sense of being lost and afraid determines her photographic field of view. Trees may be cropped at their midriff; we see no further than the middle distance. We never know quite where we are and the means of escape evades us.
In other pictures the fear disappears and in its place comes revelation. Our search reveals new shapes to our mind and the sunlight shows pathways to safety.
